Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Registered Voters:
Thank you for visiting my campaign web site. I hope you will take a moment and click through each page to learn more about me, my position(s) on various political issues, and the reasons why I am interested in becoming the 2012 Democratic Party Nominee for State Representative in the 2nd Barnstable District.
Over the course of the past few years, in an effort to better understand the issues facing our community, I have volunteered my time (and presently serve) as a member on several local boards related to education, workforce development, and economic development, including the Centerville Elementary School Council, the Cape and Islands Workforce Investment Board, and the Cape Cod Economic Development Council. I have also attended numerous town meetings and listened to the comments and concerns of my friends and neighbors regarding the present and future direction of our community. In doing so, I have arrived at the conclusion that the time has come for a political revolution of sorts in the towns of Barnstable and Yarmouth. More specifically, I believe that it is time for voters in the 2nd Barnstable District to send a new State Representative to Beacon Hill.
The 2nd Barnstable District has been represented by the same individual, State Rep. Demetrius Atsalis, for the past fourteen years. Quite frankly, I believe that Rep. Atsalis has lost touch with the values of our community and the needs of the District are not being attended to on Beacon Hill. Year after year, Rep. Atsalis has had one of the worst attendance records in the Massachusetts State House, yet some of the highest per diem expenses. Mr. Atsalis has also failed to deliver on numerous past campaign promises, and has been fined by the state multiple times for repeatedly violating campaign finance regulations.
As a small business owner with significant experience in the fields of economic development and workforce development, I understand the pressures and difficulties of owning/operating a business on Cape Cod, and would work to improve the economic climate of our community, as well as to make necessary investments in our regional workforce. Moreover, as a practicing attorney, I am confident that I would be a strong advocate for the 2nd Barnstable District, and firmly believe that I possess the education, experience and moral character to represent our community with dignity and honor on Beacon Hill.
If you are a registered Democrat or an un-enrolled voter (i.e., commonly referred to as an "independent") in the 2nd Barnstable District, I respectfully request your support in the State Primary Election on Thursday, September 6, 2012.
Sincerely,
Brian R. Mannal
